August 29 -Sept 1st Sacramento, CA. ‘Gold Rush Days in Old Sacramento S.H.P.’ Gold Rush Days takes place throughout Old Sacramento State Historic Park and the entire Old Sacramento National Landmark Historic District. More than 200 tons of dirt will be dumped on the streets of Old Sacramento as the annual festival “turns back the clock,” transforming Sacramento’s historic district into a scene straight out of the 1850s. http://www.parks.ca.gov

Camino, CA. ‘Apple Hill Season’ Located in Camino California, Apple Hill was once a fledgling association comprised of 16 original ranches, today boasts more than 50 ranches including Christmas tree growers, wineries and vineyards. Sept 5-7th Lake Tahoe, CA. ‘The 23rd Annual Lake Tahoe Autumn Food & Wine Festival’ is a weekend of food and wine, including seminars, grape stomping, culinary demonstrations and competitions, the mountain chef cook off and, of course, plenty of wine tasting. Family fun includes a pizza-spinning contest (Friday afternoon) and hands-on pizza class, as well as ongoing children’s activities Saturday afternoon. Activities include face paining, jugglers, balloon artists, cupcake decorating and flower-pot painting. All kids’ and cooking demonstrations are free, excluding Northstar’s mountain bike rentals and bungee jumping, which will be open throughout the festival. Chef and restaurateur Stephanie Izard, winner of the fourth season of Bravo's Top Chef, will be hosting a cooking seminar on Saturday. Santa Cruz, CA. ‘Adobe Mission Tour’ Take a tour of this adobe structure built during the the waning days of Mission Santa Cruz’s existence.  The grounds of the Mission will come alive with demonstrations of the Spanish labors and Native Californian ways and include crafts, outdoor cooking, equipment demonstrations and living history activities.  Designed as native worker "family apartments", the building is the only original of its kind in California today and was built by the hands of the Indians recruited by the Spanish. Sept 26th 6-8pm. Sacramento, CA. ‘Oktoberfest’ event to be held at the Sacramento History Museum. The event will give guests a chance to sample the best brews from local microbreweries while delving into the history of Sacramento brewing. Rubicon Brewing Company, Brew It Up!, Pyramid Alehouse, Auburn Alehouse, River City Brewing Company, and Hoppy Brewing Company will be on hand to share their knowledge and superior microbrews. Sept 26th 7:30-10pm Nevada City, CA. ‘Sky Show’ The sky shows are held at Tobaissen Park near the Madelyn Helling Library. The library is near the county Rood Center facility off of Highway 49. It’s about two miles northwest of downtown Nevada City. Park in the library lot and walk up the road about 100 yards to the baseball field. Tom Judy, ARC volunteer and owner of Gravit-E-Works, LLC will host this morning bike ride down the quarry trail on the Middle Fork of the American River. This will be an easy family ride. Don’t miss your chance to get up close and personal with memorabilia and personal items that explore the life and times of Ed “Big Daddy” Roth, the creative genius of the iconic Rat Fink and the man behind such inventive hot rods as the Outlaw (1959) and the Beatnik Bandit (1960). On exhibit, various original art work by Ed Roth and artists from Roth Studios, a collection of over two-hundred and fifty Ed Roth artifacts, many of which are signed, as well as Roth’s Finkmobile, a unique five-wheel creation with seating for one. Also included, never before seen hand-written personal letters from Roth, allowing the viewer a better understanding of who Roth really was and why he was able to influence the hot rod car culture both then and now. The Museum is open daily from 10am – 6pm, taking the last admission at 5pm. Museum admission: $7 Adults; $6 Seniors (65+); $3 Students with current ID; Under 5 free. http://www.toweautomuseum.org

The purpose of Dare to Dream is to present educational elements in scenic environments that will fuel the imagination and build new dreams for the future of space exploration. Ongoing: Roseville, CA  – Through Dec 08, Exhibit  ‘Discovery, Devastation, Survival: California Indians and the Gold Rush’, with a special tribute to Mountain Maidu basket weaver, Lilly Baker. The exhibit examines the impact of the gold rush and highlights several native families whose ancestors survived this devastating period. On-going. Davis, CA. ‘Move It. Science in Action!’ A hands-on Science Exhibition at the Explorit Science Center in 2801, 2nd St.Davis. Admission $4, 3 and under free. Tues- Friday 2-4:30, Sat and Sun 11-4:30. With the underlying theme of motion as a defining aspect of life, matter, and the universe, "Move It! Science in Action" will explore science that is encountered and observed in our daily lives. Ongoing:  Roseville, CA. ‘First Families, native families that survived the Gold rush’. New Exhibit Opening in conjunction with: Discovery, Devastation, Survival: California Indians and the Gold Rush. This ongoing exhibit tells the stories of many Native Californian families who survived the gold rush and are still hear to tell their stories. Ongoing:  Every weekend until September, 11-5pm. Sacramento, CA. ‘Steam train Rides on the Sacramento Southern Railroad!’ Beginning this weekend, and continuing every weekend through September, experience the sights, smells, and sounds of a real, working steam locomotive as it pulls vintage passenger coaches and converted freight cars along the levees of the Sacramento River. Regular steam-powered excursion trains depart Saturdays and Sundays, on-the-hour 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., from the Central Pacific Freight Depot in Old Sacramento. Climb aboard for a relaxing 40-minute, 6-mile roundtrip ride. Ongoing – September 2008. Sacramento, CA. ‘Space Quest!’ our popular exhibit about the solar system and space travel at the Discovery Museum Science & Space Center, 3615 Auburn Boulevard, Sacramento. The exhibit features interactive displays with loads of hands-on activities for all ages. Don’t forget your cameras to snap a shot in front of the space photomural.  Kids can try a hand at being in space as they move “moon rocks” with the bulky gloves and robotic arms that Astronauts use. In the “Science Shuttle” experiments with color, light, mass, and density simulate tests that scientists perform while on space missions. Children can put on astronaut suits and helmets and immerse themselves in imaginary space travel. Little ones can enjoy playing in a tot “Space Place” built specifically to engage children five years of age and under.
